Mary wasn't doing too bad pre-Grandma, she's been studying advanced mathematics already! But she needs to realize her full intellectual potential regardless of her feelings so the movie plot beckons a custody battle. A real life judge would see that Evan is the person she loves the most, the only person she's been raised by (plus Roberta). I think that if a real life judge was on the case and he/she weighs in that Mary is very happy, is doing just fine with Evan versus to strip her away from him would be emotional distress all for the sake so she could have healthcare, attend a better school, and live with a woman she just met - then I think the judge has an easy case. Of course, this argument might be completely based on misunderstanding what you meant, haha. It's only through becoming close to Chris Evans that she can truly see his side. She believes the uncle is being negligent to Mary by not providing her advancement. While we side with Evan's because we are following his story, I think there is some evidence to believe that the grandmother is offering a better future for the child (from an outsiders perspective, of course). Basically it would be the judge's desicion as to what is better for Mary: to have every possible option available to her, or to side with the uncle in the belief that these opportunities will simply suppress her life. The grandmother is offering more than just money, that money would provide Mary with opportunities her uncle wouldn't be able to provide. If tht is what you're saying, I do think that it would again be still somewhat grey. Basically you think the judge would side with Evans in real life? Am I understanding that correctly? ![]()
